would a X pipe make a difference?

I'd bet alot more than 7...you want the X as far forward as possible. The X allows the pulses of one bank to help scavenge the exhaust better from the other bank. Exhaust systems are really pretty cool science.

I had to replace a rusted out gibson system on my truck last year, and went with a true dual magnaflow system. The x pipe was put in the wrong place and I didnt know any better (for almost a year). After reading a thread a few weeks ago I went back and had them move the x pipe about 4 feet farther forward, and it made a noticeable difference in the low end. I dont have dyno numbers or anything to prove it, but it definitely helped.

There has been extensive testing of an X-pipe by NASCAR in the early 90's. Rusty Wallace was the first to do it, won a few races in a row and kept it a secret. At one event he flipped over and everyone new what he had done. Next week everyone had one on their race car. The closer they are to the headers the more HP they make. About 10-15 hp on a 750 hp engine. On a stock engine with true duals up to about 10hp.
