I know this is a couple years back but it cost me under 1500 to rebuild my stock tranny to better specs from www.rosslertrans.com at the time. I added an LPE 383 to my firebird and babied it for 6 months and it gave up. The tranny was freshly rebuilt under GM warranty. Got the Rossler trans and it lasted for 3.5 years as a daily driver with me beating on it several times a day, every day. Rossler comes recommended from LPE.

I would have to disagree with both of these statements as my totally stock 4l60 lasted a good 70,xxx miles with close to 500 drag strip passes starting in the mid 15's down to my best in 12.8's. And I drive this truck hard almost every chance I get. It was starting to get weary though as expected so I had it completely rebuilt to a 65 with no regrets. I would only recommend an 80e to someone who has big plans of running quicker than mid 11's. Just my .02.

I wasn't trying to tell him to swap to a 80e in a stock truck. I was only stating that for significant horespower a stock 60e isn't going to hold up.

Well, in my C3 Ive gone through two 4l65's in 28'000 miles. Stock other than a westers tune and CORSA sport exhaust (I hate my corsa by the way). The tranny is fried right now. Im gonna purchase the upgrade kit from JAG performance, a bigger cooler, and a Trailblazer converter. Ill see how that works...........

Sorry if I sounded rude skinny. I was just stating my opinion. I think you either get a good one or a bad one. My first 60 went out at 40,000 bone stock. The second one was a good one, and now I'm on my custom 65.

A 65e should handle that much power pretty easily. An 80e would probably be overkill for that kind of power. And yes 80s are heavy trannies. 12sec5.3 no offense taken I was trying to clear up what I had tryed to say previously. I get a little retarded at times and don't explain very well.
