XR265HR in a 5.3 dyno graph and thoughts
#101
I was referred this cam for my truck as well. I have a 2002 excab sb 5.3 lifted on 32s with 3.73 gears and want to keep the stock converter for towing ability. Would this cam be good on a 114 lsa, or would I have better luck moving my heavy truck with 112 lsa? And I've heard longtubes are a must with a cam to get the most out of it?

I'm hoping some of yall can still help me; I noticed it's been a few years since the last post. First off, this was a great thread, thanks to everyone!! I'm looking to buy the low lift version of this cam, basically for the same reason everyone else wanted it. The only thing I'm worried about is the 114lsa. If I'm going to spend the money I'd really like to get a nice sound out of it as well as performance. I've seen people ask about the 112lsa version but, I have yet to see it anywhere. I heard Nitrous Express had the cam with a 112lsa but, I guess they no longer sell cams, so it's hard to find the specs for it. I called Texas Speed asking them about custom grinding a cam with the same XR265HR specs with a 112lsa, but I'm not sure of the perfect valve lift after changing the lobe separation. He recommended a 211/217 112lsa with a higher lift than the high lift version of the XR265HR and said I would get better low end with that. I also see they have a XE212/218 .558 .563 112lsa Comp Cam, but again I'm not sure how a higher lift with a lower lsa will perform compared to the XR265HR. Any input will help guys!!

Even swapping springs, rods, and lifters? It is a dd and I don't plan to race it. I'd like an overall performance upgrade obviously but its a 4x4 and I use it, so I'm not looking to loose any low end. I want it to sound good because it's always been a childhood dream, but if it's going to drive like *** then I'll deal with the 114lsa. It just gets confusing when one person tells you "the higher lift will extend the rpm range and you'll loose low end", but then the next tells you "with the higher lift, slightly lower duration and lower lsa", you'll have better low end then the XR265HR. Thanks for the reply btw
