That ball and socket was the easier and quicker of the choices you had, besides welding it completely. It looks great.
I preffer V-Bands but have been lucky with 3 bolts to, I also use deadsoft gaskets for a leak free connection. My new exhaust will be built with V-band clamps.

You guys have given me a lot of ideas. I think I am going to use v-bands at the header collector and just some good stepped band clamps everywhere else and use a coating of that rtv jizz stuff.

I will be welding the the v-bands myself. Any tricks or suggestions on the best way?

If you have access and experience Tig would be the best method for welding the bands. Other wise Mig is just fine.

I will do. MeanZ71 told he get me in touch with his exhaust that did his and did a damn good job. He also found me some v-band for $25 a piece for everything.
