For an x-pipe to actually be affective and work as designed, the pipes leading up to it should be of equal length, so that the x-pipe can properly scavenge the exhaust pulses and allow for good exhaust velocity. This can be hard to achieve considering the space constrictions on our trucks, but it is doable. Bill (trever1t) used to have a real nice true dual system with an x on his truck, and it was worked around a transfer case nonetheless. Whatever path you choose, the exhaust pipe diameter(s) should match your setup and power goals...if you go too small you leave a lot of power on the table, and if you go too big you may loose some exhaust velocity and suffer a power loss down low Just my .02

There's a sticky over that can help you in this situation espicially with the size of piping you want to use. But I have a custom X-pipe on mine with a magnaflow muffler that also has a x-pipe design in it and it sounds amazingggg. but not anymore since I'm going to be F/I in the future its for sallleeee!!!! lol

A single 3" cat-back would be just right for a mild 5.3 IMO, but may not be optimal if you're planning more cubes in your future. FWIW, when I installed my StainlessWorks LT's, a didn't notice any loss down low, but my headers and y-pipe have smaller 2.5" collectors and y-pipe, into a 3" cat-back (1 3/4" primaries). Now, if I ever get the dough to put my LQ9 together, I feel that the smaller collectors will definitely hold me back...maybe not so much the y-pipe, but definitely the collectors. Optimally, for a N/A 6.0, I like Corey's set-up, with a 3.5" single cat-back. If boosted, or with a nasty cam and headwork, 4" could be justified and work well. IIRC, Roger (AKlowriderZ71) is currently running a 4" cat-back with his 5.3, but he's boosted and cammed which has a definite affect on the equation

I'm going to switch to a system like Roger's as well. I think the single sytem sounds cleanest and is such a sleeper setup. The 4" moves tons of air. I don't like the sound of true duals and really think the two pipes straight out the back look awful. One out each side isn't so bad but why bother when a single system is all that you need?

I've heard good things about the flowmaster scavenger y and I actually have one but I have yet to install it. Going with a single 4 inch on the 95 with a MBRP muffler. We'll see.
