Default YEA!!! finaily geting someware

i have been working on this thing for the last 5hours trying to figure out why it is so slow and how to get rid of KR. i have been seeing 5-10deg of timing with prety much 8deg of KR. tried race gas and it didn't help.

spent several hours with ls1edit and atap to try and desestize the sensors, i sped up the decay rate, decreased the attack rate, adjusted the attack gain vs altitude all the way down to 30%(was at 100%). it all made no diference so i went with the resistors wired in with the knock sensors, i used the 25% reduction values. ohh baby, now it is running.

first of all i am still seeing some kr, it was flucuating under 4deg but my timing went all the way upto 15deg. went and made a couple of runs. first was a 14.09, then a 14.05!!! thats with 1/2 tank of gas, tools, trailer hitch, 5psi of boost, stock shift points. the auto 4wd is starting to not handle it. i see 13's in my near future. maybe mid 13's

before i go much further i want to figure out my knock sensors, i need to not have knock but they also need to work, i want to push this thing, more boost, that kind of thing. one person sugested that i retorque my knock sensors(eeek, i never torqued them in the first place) they may be too tight, anyone ever hear of this? after i check the torque i may go a little farther with the resistors, shoot for 30-35% and see if the KR goes away then. maybe add a little fuel see if that helps. my 02's got as low as .88volts.

Oh man, you didn't torque the knock sensors. <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

If you torque them to tight they will become more sensitive, too little and they will lose sensitivity.

I'll get my helms manual out and check what the torque specs. are. Check back here in a little bit. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

That's awesome that you dropped a full second. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Torque specs are 15 lb-ft.(metric = 20Nm)

I've heard you can also put teflon tape on the threads to desensitize them but, that's not a very accurate way to do it.

really!! does everyone know this? what a dummy if this is really the problem, i have been chasing this for months.

i just checked my injector duty cycle and i am at 74%, that is nice, i have a little room to play with higher shift points and making it a little richer up top.

Really! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

<img src="http://64.127.132.31/REALLY!.jpg" alt=" - " />

It looks like you would have a set of 8.1L injectors maxed out right now with a 74% dc on the 41#ers.

Once you get those knock sensors worked out throw a little more boost and timing at that thing and crack off some low 13's/high 12's. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Sounds like you are on the right track. Are you going to keep the stock shift points, or are you going to start playing with them? Where are the times coming from? G-Tech?

What happens if you put RTV sealant around the base of the knock sensor(s)? I think I read that somewhere, but not sure. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

times are with a gtech, i think they are prety close. i don't think i will go with the teflon tape or rtv, i am going to retorque and then if i need to use the resistors to decrease sensitivity. i am going to start playing with everything now, the shift points, fuel, timing, boost, ltrims.

mid 13's here i come. 12's are my dream but i think they may be a few thousand$ away yet. stock tranny still.

Man thats great! I was feeling pretty bad for you. I know how frusterated you were and I didn't have near as much invested in my setup as you have. Keep me informed please. You should get some good work in with the long weekend. Get after it!
