Default Z06 cam question

Hey guys, I have been thinking a lot about getting a 01 Z06 cam for my truck (207/217 .525/.525 on a 116 lsa), but I have an awesome friend that will sell me the cam+springs out of his 03' Z06 for really cheap. The specs on the 03 cam are (204/218 .551/.551 on a 117.5 lsa). The 01 zo6 cam is supposed to be good for a little less hp, but will gain a bit more torque. I also do already have a trailblazer converter in my truck, but I don't know if it will be enough stall for the 03 zo6 cam. Please let me know if you have had any experience with either of these, or any helpful insight. Thanks

Aaron

ive always thought that the Z06 cams make more hp up top then down low. imo i would go for a better grind from one of the big names unless you are trying to do it on a budget. it will help a little.

any of those cams suck down low since they have suck a high LSA.. LSA on the trucks is 114.. add a 116 or higher LSA and the truck will scream above 300 rpms but fall on its face below that.

i thought about a custom 114 LSA grind, but i wanna get headers and everything else first

If you are set on one or the other, go with the 01. If you do decide to go with the 03 then change your springs. Althoug some are running the 03 cam with stock springs, I know their have been issues..

I had the Z06 cam in my truck, it was awesome above 3500 rpms with no advance in it, I installed it straight up, I would reccomend installing it advanced 4 degrees, very drivable, no idle issues, the 4.8 sucked in torque with the factory convertor, it loved notrous though.

the 6.0 make alot of torque so it probably would not be that bad on the low end but I wouls reccomend at least a 3000 stall.

The cam was a blast on the interstate though, I ate alot of people up with it as long as we didn't take off from a dead stop!

Which cam do you have? 98-01 or 03-up?

It is definately a budget build because I am still a student with only so much $$ to play with. I was just hoping that with the 6.0 the Trailblazer stall would be enough so that I wouldn't lose anything on the low end.

Also I would be getting the Z06 springs along with the cam. I could just save up a bit more and go with the 01, but I would really be getting one hell of a deal on the 03 z06 cam.

The 01 Z06 cam is the better choice of the 2.I know of an extened cab with the 01 cam, headers, tuning, converter and intake that runs in the 13's.I just recently picked up the 01 cam and springs for $150.The specs are 204,211@.525 lift on 116 LSA.I plan on advacing mine 4* when installed.

I have the '02 Z06 cam. It is fun on the highway, but down low it needs help. Above 3500rpm's and it really comes alive.
