Yes, this cam will work nice in a 5.3 and you will need to change springs.

what would the idle be like? would it have a noticable lope to it?

 

I have not installed this cam so I could not tell exactly how it sounds but considering the size, the lobe shoulb be noticeable.

 

How big of a stall would be needed?

 

I would think this cam would yield pretty noticable gains and yes the lope should be noticable. My 216/220 .525/.532 114LSA has a fairly noticable lope to it at idle and paired with lt headers netted me a 44 hp gain. Although, I think with some fine tuning I can maybe pick up another 10hp. I would however think that you would need a good converter. I actually wish I had the Vig 2800 for my cam and it should be lower in the powerband than the one Tib is selling. Still should be a very good cam and with tuning should show some very strong numbers.
