You can get a 160 thermostat out of JEGS in the LS1/LT1/TPI section for like $24.99. Im pretty sure its SLP brand. That way its brand spankin new with no surprises. I have been thinking about one for my truck.

Hmmm 49.95 on summit 54.99 on Jegs....keep in mind I have to get the one with the full housing...still looking for one from a member.

i have not seen the SLP stat in summit but the jegs number is 847-100228. go to jegs.com and look it up by number.

I think the one you are looking at is the hypertrash thermostat.

The ones with the housing are more expensive. They are both SLP.

Is the one without a housing harder to install? Whats the reason for the one with the housing and the other without the housing? Please splain to me cuz I might be wanting the wrong one.

It has to do with where the stat is mounted. I believe 99-02, maybe 03, not completely sure, use the one with the housing. It bolts on to the water pump and the radiator hose attaches directly to it. I think....but am not 100% sure....that the newer style ones without the housing go into the engine block somewhere, whereas the ones with the housing bolt onto the water pump. I think you need the one with the housing as well on your 2000.
