02 GMC Yukon Towing Question
My vehicle has 3.73 ratio for the rear end. 5300 Vortec with 3.73 rear end Since it is 4WD, I would rather not go to 4.10 since I have to change both gears. The book says the max capacity is 7500. However the 4.10 ratio one gets to tow 8500. Why the difference? Because the RPM is higher from the 4.10 gears?
Also The trailer dry weight will be 6000. Add about 1500# of ATVs and a few items and that should bring me to about 7500 and a couple more for other misc stuff. I would estimate that it shouldn't exceed 8000 . I will have a weight distribution hitch with the sway controller.
The good part is that I have Dynatech long tube headers, Transgo shift kit, larger transmission cooler and Billet Transmission servos and a Granatelli Intake. Also I have got Jesse to take out all torque management and abuse mode. Is this going to be enough or should I have to do more modifications? TIA

You should be fine the only thing I worry about is the brakes. You need brakes on that trailer cause you didnt mention them. Power you will be fine IMO. With my Z71 with a Nelson tune, exhaust(that almost ran us out of the cab due to noise) and an intake I towed a 8500#ish boat about 150 miles and didnt have a problem the power was there(would have like to have had more) but the braking sucked cause I dont have a brake controller even though the trailer had brakes. Power will be fine but you need brakes bottom line.

The triailer will have electric brakes and the dual cam sway control kit on it. My truck has the towing package option so it has the 7 lead trailer plug end and the 4 lead adapter. Also has the tranny cooler which I thought was too small and now sits on my bench. A much bigger B&M one is in it's place.

I would beef up the transmission even further if I were you. Maybe put an eaton in the rear cause the G80s suck but if you go offroad then get a detroit truetrac the eaton wont work offroad where one wheek has no traction.

Sounds good to me but I personally don't like that much weight on a receiver hitch. I have had bad experience with a drag behind trailer weighting in at 9000 lbs and 2 blowouts, 1 tire blew out which caused the other tire to blow. The truck at the time was a 94 GMC 3500 dually, the extra set of wheels prevented the rig from rolling. After that incident anything weighting above 6000 lbs gets put on 40 ft gooseneck trailer which is know pulled with Freightliner fl60.

Also a Heavy Duty transcooler will go a long way in keeping that tranny working under load.
