You mentioned the trailer has electric brakes and your truck has the 7 wire towing package, but you didn't say whether or not you have an electric brake CONTROLLER. This is something you have to have for the brakes to work and does NOT come with the truck. The truck most likely come with the necessary pig tall to wire it in under the dash, but you must install a controller for the brakes to work. HTH

BTW, what kind of trailer do you have that has a dry weight of 6K?

true. The trailer I purchased is designed by weekend warrior for the 1/2 tons. thats why the dry weight is only 4200lbs.

The trailer would be a 2004 Keystone Tailgator 210RR http://www.keystone-tailgator.com/sh....php?year=2004

I would have the brake controller installed before I tow it.

Got the final weights on the unit. It weighs 5680# + 833 for water and 60 for propane and 1500 for the ATVs which gives us a grand total of 8073. The hitch is rated at 12000# with a weight distribution hitch and 600# tongue weight. The tongue weight will be about 800#. Gear ratio is going to be 4.10 which boosts the carrying capacity to 8500# and that gives me some cushion to put other stuff in it since the wife likes to pack everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink. Also will be bringing along some sort of generator for the electric power.

My rear end and front end (4X4) are 3.73 and I will be upping it to 4.10 unless someone things I should go further.

Did you compute the GCWR as outlined above? If not, you really need to do this.

I think you're pushing it. There's a lot more to it than gears and the hitch. There's the frame, the brakes, the sway bars....if it were me, I'd be getting a 2500.

GCWR is 14000# - Last time I weighed the vehicle it was about 4500# give or take so with some gear and fuel, I can't see it being over 5000# so that gives me about 9000# if I am reading you correctly

The tongue weight is about 800# and the max according to the label pasted on the hitch is 1500#.

I'll go load it up with fuel and see what it weighs tomorrow

Your Yukon/Tahoe weighs a hell of alot more than 4500#s its mroe like 5600#s. I owuld get a radix supercharger, dont mess with the gears cause you will have to do th front too and that is going to be like two grand for gears when that would be close to half of what you would pay for a good used radix supercharger. I have towed a bit over 10,000#s with my truck granted it was only for a short distance(75miles) it did alright I went up over decent sized bridge with my foot to the floor with bolt ons and a tune and I kept it up to about 35mph no overheating and now trailer brakes . I think you will be fine towing that weight as long as you put some power in that damn thing. You have to remember you have to add the occupants weight and the extra gear they bring to the overall weight. I promise your Yukon weighs in at ~5600#s my Z71 ecsb weighs in at 5600 with me in it and a tool box and subs. Yukons are heavier.

Gears are costing me $500 tops since someone I know is doing them for me as a payoff for servics rendered.

Final weight of truck full of fluids is 5880 with me and the wife in it. Guess you are right about that. Anyways, I am thinking of doing the gears for now and then when the wife sees me having trouble with pulling it will be a "Honey, You see, we NEED a supercharger and it is not just because I want to go fast."
