Default 1500 HD differences?

Well, as my family mixed things up and got a little 4 door car for my dad, my mom has the 2003 crew cab 1500HD with a 6.0 and I have the 1999 1500 RCSB with the 5.3. Mom and I both use our trucks as DD's but I like to have fun in mine. What is the difference between the 1500 HD and the 1/2 tons? I am thinking about suggesting to her swapping trucks, as hers would be a better base to go off of for upgrades. Thanks.

I agree with the 1500HD being a better platform in terms of strength, but there is quite a weight penalty.

1500HD has stronger frame, tranny, and rear end, bigger brakes.

from what I could figure just by a quick look at it is its basically a 1/2 ton from on 3/4 ton drivetrain/suspension!! Not too sure, because I have nothing but my 99 to compare it to. and yeah that weigh penalty has been in my head, and seeing Parish run back home makes me wanna just go crazy! It awesome to see him run out at the track (props to you Parish). Its just that all the drivetrain would be there and make it a decent base to build form, plus, I am definetely not making it my "race car" as I have the 72 Nova for that, which is soon to be backhalved, caged, and possibly blown/fuel inj.!!!!
Good part about that is I can do all that myself, so TONS of money is being saved there!!!Just means more for !

are u sure the frame is different than a regular 1500??? I know a 2500HD but i thought the 1500,1500HD(2500LD) were the same basic frame, from a money point of view makes more sense to only have 2 frames instead of 3 for the line of trucks

Other than that the 1500HD is sweet. 3/4 ton running gear in a truck much lighter than a 2500HD

My 1500HD weighs in at 6050 or more with me in it (200 lb) vs less than 4500 lbs for your RCSB. Mine is 4WD so at least I have no real traction issues even on stock tires. You can ask Grippy about traction issues in 2WD HD trucks like his 2500HD or ask Jerry2500 about his. I still really like my 1500HD. You can check out my sig for mods and performance stats. I just added the STS so it is still a bit of a work in progress. My truck ran 16.85 stock on my G-Tech.

Grippy you forgot to mention the BIGGER ENGINE. LOL

Either way you can make yourself a fun ride to haul your Nova around in.

No the frame on the 1500HD and 2500LD are the same but the 1500 frames are 2" smaller. They (1500) are 6" VS 8" I think. The frame on the 1500HD tapers down to 5" after the rear axle. The 1500HD has the old 3/4 ton frame AFAIK.

ATD my friend, read his first post, he stated 6.0L in it, so he was already aware of that one

1500HD/2500 are the same truck as Mort stated.

and yes the 1500HD/2500 frame is larger than a 1500series truck frame.
