Default 1500HD and 2500HD what are the diff.

I was looking at an 03 Ext. Cab 2500HD but that didnt pan out. Now I am looking at an 02 Crew Cab 1500HD. The 2500HD sat a little high for my wifes liking, would the 1500HD sit a little lower?

What are the differences between the 1500HDs and the 2500HDs?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

go to chevrolet.com and check out the specs.

But I think the only difference is the engine, 5.3 vs 6.0, and the 2500's are 8 lug. I believe the 1500 hd just has beefier leaf springs.

1500HD is a 2500LD. So the 1500HD is actually a 3/4-ton truck. I think 1500HD would sit a little lower than 2500HD, not by much though.

So, the 1500HD is going to have 6.0 and 4L80e. 2500HD is avail with 6.0, 8.1 and duramax, coupled with 4L80e or allison.

IMO, go with the 1500HD unless you need more towing/hauling capacity than it already has. I think 1500HD is 3000lbs payload and 12,000lbs towing, those are rough estimates, you can look on the net to find exact numbers.

It depends on year but the 1500HD might have 8 lug just like the 2500. I would say the 1500HD is a 1/2 ton frame with 3/4 ton springs and torsion.

A 1500hd is a 2500 LD truck. Its a 3/4 ton truck and everything that goes with it. The 2500HD has a 1 ton frame and beefier leafs in the rear along with a little different front end components.

I have an 01 1500HD It has 8 lugs. My 1500 sits a lil lower than my bro n laws 01 2500HD/. Both are 4x4 if that matters.

If we are talking 6.0L trucks, the main difference between a 1500HD(2500) and a 2500HD is the rear diff, frame and that the 1500HD(2500) is only offered in a Crew Cab. The 2500HD is quite a step up in frame strength, not only is it taller but the material is thicker as well, also the rear diff's are larger.

I've had both, a 2003 1500HD and my current 2005 2500HD

Thanks for all of the info guys. I appreciate it.
Yup, its a 6.0L and has 8 lug wheels. So this has the 4L80E tranny.

Here is a couple other little differences if you are interested:

1500HD = 9.5" semi-floater 14-bolt
2500HD = 10.5" full-floater 14-bolt

1500HD = 3.73 & 4.10 optional
2500HD = All 6.0/auto trucks only have 4.10

1500HD 4x4 = pushbutton autotrac transfer case (junk)
2500HD 4x4 = has floor-shift or pushbutton non-autotrac transfer case (stronger)

For some stupid reason in 2004 GM changed the badges on the 1500HD to 2500, then they changed it back to 1500HD in 2005+.

whew, its been a while, but I am back.

Thanks for the info Neil. I am just curious as to why you would say the pushbutton auto-trac is junk?

Thanks
