I say they are junk because it sucks when a bearing goes out inside the t-case and lets the chain eat a hole into the bottom of the t-case and drains out all the fluid and smokes the clutches. Then you search salvage yards nationwide for a month and find nothing. Then you call the supplier for GM and have them ship you a brand new unit for $1500.

Yes that would suck. This would be my first 4x4, all of my other trucks have been 2wd. Honestly I probably would'nt use the 4wd (at least I say that, until it snows out, lol), seriously I have never had any trouble with my 2wd trucks. What are the chances of that happening?
HHMMMM, now you got me thinking.

I only see that happening if...
1. you beat the hell out of it
2. have a TON of power going through it
3. it was bad the day it was assembled
For a daily driven truck, I really dont see that happening unless its just some freak accident or something.

You can get have yours rebuilt at a reputable shop with a better warranty than that.
My brother's 01' Z71 t-case was totally destroyed inside from that chain making a hole in the t-case. His fluid leaked out as well.
Isn't there a better way to make a t-case without a chain?
