Default 1977 K10 Info

My brother has a 1977 Silverado K10 350ci granny 4sp manual. Possible swaping to a TH350 in the future though.
What axles does it have? Dana 44's front and back?

He wants 4.10s and some type of Positive traction in the front and rear... i suggested a Truetrac in the rear.. not sure in the front.

Do any of you guys have any info on these trucks?

The rear should be a 12 bolt and the front could either be a dana 44 or a 10 bolt. Most likely it is the dana 44. If you have pictures of the diff I could tell you for sure.

I have a 1984 K-10 with 10 bolt axles and I have a Detroit c-locker in the rear and I love it. I have a powertrax locker in the front and I would not recomend putting a locker that can't be disabled in the front. If I wasn't trying to sell the truck I would take the front locker out. It just make it harder to turn the truck in 4wd not nearly as fun to drive and not really much off road gain from adding it over having the locker in the rear and an open diff in the front. It does make it easier to break front axle U-joints tho.

Here this might help. This is the shape of the cover gaskets.
No pictures of a 12 bolt gasket, but hey count the bolts. There should be 12.

they better have the same gears or someones gonna be in a world of trouble

chances are its a dana 44 up front and 12 bolt out back, most of them trucks were heavy halfs, the frames are thicker than 80-87 ones

I was told you could run the truck off-road if the ratios were close, say 3.42 front and 3.73 rear. But you couldnt engage the 4wd on a hard surface. what do you guys think??

Bad idea even off-road. You can get away with that in a mud only truck, I think some serious mud run guy will do this to get the fronts to spin a little faster to help pull the vehicle. But they never drive that way on a solid surface. If the wheels don't turn the same speed on any kind of even semi-solid surface them things will bind up and somethings gona break.
