Default 2004 yukon HVAC blower speed only works on 3,4, and 5

I have a 2004 gmc yukon with the manual driver/passenger HVAC. It also has the rear aux controls.

My blower only works on settings 3-5, 1-2 do not work.

Also, the truck has 135k, but AC blows cold and heat is hot. Do I need to pump up the refrigerant ro change the seperate compressor belt? (truck has two belts, one serpantine and one for the compressor)

The blower motor resistor has gone bad, about $40 at autozone for a new one. Located under the dash on the passenger side footwell area of the airbox. When you find the blower motor, follow the harness and it should go a few inches and plug into a rectangular plug that is bolted to the airbox with two screws.

You are gonna need the resistor and a harness as both are probably melted and shorted. Pull them apart and check. You will need to splice the harness into your existing wiring.

Never seen the harness melt on the 4 trucks I've replaced resistors on. Just buy the new blower resistor and r&r

Blower resistor module and harness are common on these. Check in the terminals of the harness connector for a loose fitting terminal, or burnt marks. Very common.

Also, on higher mileage vehicles like this, the blower motor is suspect. If the brushes are about worn out & sticking, the "power surge" until it starts spinning can smoke the resistor. If you've ever had a bad starter that you were trying to get to work just one more time, remember how hot the battery cables get.

I found a great video on youtube from 1Aauto showing me how to do this...yep the board on the resistor was fried and peeling, suprised it works at all....found a new ACDELCO one on ebay for $40 shipped...just have to wait now.

Also I posted on another thread, anyone have any ideas why my fog lamps suddenly stopped working? Fuses/relays are good, bulbs good, I dont see any broken wires/connections, and the orange LED lights up on the fog lamp switch and I hear a click in engine bay when I press it which I guess is good....but no illumination

You probably have 2 burned out bulbs. Just unplug and bust out your test light. I'll bet that's all it is.

1. Yes it was the blower motor resistor, I replaced and now it works (GM just sent me a letter-they issued a recall!! hopefully they will reimburse my cost)

2.Yes it was just the bulbs-silverstar bulbs apparently burn quicker (b/c brightness)

NEW PROBLEM---When I put my passenger side HVAC temp slider to medium cold (or even like 90% cold) it blows hot air......but if i put it to max cold it blows cold air....

Your new problem is also common to this model. It needs to be reset/resynchronized. Do a search, there's a thread on here somewhere that outlines the procedure. It's not difficult, but I can't remember what it is exactly.
