Default 2006 1500 4.8L v8 electric fan

Does my 2006 chevy silverado 1500 crew cab w/ 4.8l v8 come with electric cooling fans or not? My buddy told me he put some in his 02' and got better gas milage and hp. Does mine already have electric fans stock from the factory?

There is a large black cover over that part of the engine compartment. If there is no fan attached directly on the block, would that mean I already have electric fans? How can I tell?

Well bud, unless you have a hamster in there spinning that thing, if it isn't connected to the engine, that'd be a good clue that it's electric.

start the truck and let it idle. turn the ac on and see if the fans kick on. the fans aren't covered. they bolt to the radiator. if there is no fan blade connected to the water pump then it has electric fans. 05 and up trucks do.

Thanks, so it looks like I'll have to explore other options to gain more mpg's.

If you don't already have a tune, then get one. Nelson, black bear, wheatly...etc. They're all great at what they do and can give you better mileage.
