I'm doing the same swap right now into my 00 Silverado 4x4. The above link answered a TON of the questions I had. I've had to a bit more work because I'm putting in an 04 dbw LM4 5.3 from an Envoy, so more stuff has to be changed to make it work. I would STRONGLY suggest that you get a 99-02 dbc 5.3 from a truck (Silverado/Sierra) as it would make things way easier. If you have any specific questions feel free to shoot me a pm...
Also, I wouldn't hesitate to get a 4.8... once you get a v8 in there you can swap between 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 very easily as they basically use all the same components.

The tach will work fine. They don't differentiate between V6 and V8 gauge clusters. When you go to buy one for this vehicle they are all the same. The V8 ECM sends the correct signal to the tach regardless of what it originally was.

Okay I have have a 99 Bravada. Not a sport truck by any means. It does have the 4L80E in it as well. I blew my stock 4.3 vortec seeing as it hit 313k. I want to drop something else in there. Would it be easier going with the LB4-Z or going with a 5.3?

An 80E is kinda (lotta) overkill for a V6. If you aren't scared of a little work, you can fit a V8 in there (traction problems here we gooooooooo!). But a replacement V6 would be a lot easier.
