Default 4.8?

Hi evryone brand new to the forums i have just bought a 2000 gmc scsb with a 4.8 i have been doing some reading and everyone seems to point to a engine swap for more power 5.3 or 6.0.. i just was wondering what mods the people running the 4.8's have done (turbo, supercharger, cam etc)i really dont want to go through a engine swap at the moment the truck is my DD..but i can handle a weekend project like cam swap or new heads cold air etc. and if there is a sticky on this already i apologize in advance.

i wouldnt waste ur time trying to build any sort of high hp naturally aspirated from a 4.8. If your just looking for some small add ons then go ahead and do bolt ons but if your thinking of like a heads/cam setup for more power then you might as well go forced induction (supercharger or turbo) right off the bat. more power out of that smaller v8 then your ever gonna make NA and you can still have good DD charecteristics as well. Look up foose04 and a few others...

you can make a 4.8 run but it takes work. a good cam, head, bolt on setup will go low 13s or maybe you can be one to break 12s NA. they get great gas mileage and can be very reliable.

whatever you put on the 4.8 now, will work when you DO upgrade to the 5.3 or 6.0

Thanks for the replies guys thats some food for thought..i might be leaning towards a 6.0swap since from what i have been reading it's a plug n play install except for maybe a tune after..i just want to get all the paticulars down before i go ripping out my 4.8 if a 6.0 is a direct bolt in something a few buddies and some beer can take care of in a week end with out any major mods im all for that route.

I've seen quite a few threads where the swap has been done in a weekend with 2-3 people.
It is pretty common to read that if youre going to try to make the 4.8 quick, you're going to need to go forced induction or spray nitrous.

If you're looking for N/A then swap to a 6.0 imo

like everyone said na i would swap to a 6.0, but you'd be surprised what these little 4.8's can do. they can be pushed pretty hard on stock bottom end w/ nitrous or boost. i'm going to push i far as it will go. running 14-15 # boost now, should make 550rwhp+.

i made 440rwhp on 8# on a mustang dyno and to be honest thats all you need for the street. it hooks pretty good up to 10# boost, after that it gets a little scary.
