Werd. After seeing what people are doing w/ a turbo on stock internal 4.8. I feel kinda dumb for dumping money into a cammed 6.0. There are some good deals on used turbo kits for sale in the classifieds. It wouldn't be too much more money to be boosted compared to what I spent.

Probably came with the truck. 4.8 shortblocks go for next to nothing. Boosted, they are capable of putting down some good power. A turbo'd 4.8 would blow the doors off my cammed 6.0.

Read the new Hot Rod magazine.... 1200hp out of a measly little 4.8. I wish I would have turboed the 4.8 in my truck instead of installing a lq9 and t56. I had no idea what these little motors were capable of with boost.

By the time you do a 6L swap, you will be in probably 1800 plus. I would bet that very competatively you could find a used turbo kit to match that. As well as, i think KB and trick had kits in the the $2700 dollar range at one time.

After driving my turbo 4.8, and then swapping to a forged NA LQ9, I highly prefered the drivability of the turbo truck. Yes it was my factory motor before I hurt it after 30k boosted miles.

I bought shorty headers back in the day, a shitty handheld tuner, then put a 100 shoton it. I would have skipped all that, and went straight with a turbo if I could go back.

if u can get the money get an 6.0...if not get a 5.3..the question is do you have the tools to do it,or do you know someone that has the tools. to do ,it can be done in a weekend, all depense on how fast u work, might wana go ahead n get a 80e swap n have a tune sent to while ur doing the swap...im planing on dont an lq4 n 80e swap in my 06 silverado when i get her paid for...truck already haves 74k on it now...it be easier if you have everything ready at time of the swap if u going to cam it or put heads on it while its out it be alot easier to do ..just my .02

Wow! getting some mixed reviews here well im all for using the 4.8 if its worth messing with im not looking to break land speed records just want a strong truck..I think i have settled on a short list mod's for now.first im going to get the stance right with 2/4 drop then im going to change gears in the rear to see how that wakes things up. Then if im not satisfied ill look into a turbo or super charger or maybe the 6.0 swap.

If youre happy with a 14 second truck just do some boltons and gear change. Or if you want 13's change torque converter and cam.

anything quicker its time a 6L swap or a turbo

magnacharger makes a good blower for it, i love mine! supercharger alone i think it will hit low to mis 14's with traction problems. should be doing a lot better after 4.10s posi and slicks, hopefully in the 13's
