Default Is the 4.8 really that big of a dog?

Have been enjoying this web site for about a year now. It has got me through Afghanistan with something to look forward to at the end of the day as far as reading what crazy project some knucklehead had brewing. But anyways when I got back I came across a killer deal on a 2011 LS ECSB 4x4 with the 4.8. I love it and I know that is what really matters, but it seems to have plenty of power. Even though I traded a four banger Nissan truck for it so my view of "power" may be a little skewed . Well when I really started to read into all the stuff about the 4.8 it seems that it is viewed more as the red headed step cousin of the Chevy offerings. Granted I know the 6.2 is beastly and the 5.3 is great also. But I mean come on is the baby LS really that bad?

It's a dependable motor and gets some good MPG which is never a bad thing. From everything I have seen though the 4.8 LOVES boost.

I'm happy with mine for the time being, but its a 5 speed...there are some guys on this board making wicked power with a 4.8...poke around a bit.

I wouldn't "jump" on an ecsb 4.8 if I were you.

They're not that bad. In stock form, given all other variables the same (gears, etc) you can barely tell the difference.

Unless he's going big turbo... there a a bunch of crazy turbo 4.8s... and theyre relatively cheap to replace if it were to fail

I've noticed that people like to dump boatloads of boost in it. But my mileage is horrible. Maybe its because it only has 4100 miles but I'm averaging about 14. I imagine your 6.2 is getting better.

As mentioned before the 4.8 is a REAL performer when boost is applied. Just search and read the article from HotRod magazine and search for their "Big Bang Theory" Stock GM LS Engine - Big Bang Theory - Hot Rod Magazine

Skip ALOT of the mods and go boost! Things that you may need to build up first are Trans, Rear Diff, Fuel Mods and a turbo kit and you should be good to go! A custom TUNE is a MUST!!!!! dont waist money on handheld tuners!

BTW.....Thank You For Your Service!!!!!!
