Is the 4.8 really that big of a dog?

Could be worse. Most 4.8 trucks feel more like dogs because they usually get built with ridiculously bad gearing, and they're already short on torque compared to their larger brothers. Plus now you throw in the torque differences with the 4L60E vs the low 1st gear of the 6L80E in the 5.3 and 6.2 trucks, and there you go. It isn't a bad setup until you compare it with the others. You can run a last-gen Mustang GT with a stock 6.2. You have to remember that the majority of the members here are performance enthusiasts; the 4.8 is the slowest one and is therefore the turd of the family. On another note, glad to hear you're enjoying your truck that really is all that matters.

WERD... My 4.8L work truck was a dog with 3.73's. Swapped the 4.56 ten bolt from my big truck into it and now she scoots out pretty damn good.
