.....
My measurements and posted picture indicate that the 13.5" rotor is about an 1/8" taller ( ie more BACK SPACE) as compared to the older NNBS 12.99" rotor. Using the correct, appropriate 2020 spec 13.5 inch rotor should NOT require additional, non factory SHIM or spacer to center the 2020 spec 4 Piston caliper.
..... I "think": that those shimming/spacing the caliper are trying to compensate dimensions to continue running the old, smaller rotor with the NEW 4 piston calier, which I wish to avoid.
.... " We don't want no STEENKING Shims"
I will update this thread when I get everything lashed up.

Here's 7:38 video on the entire swap, showing the shim. When you add the shim to center the caliper, you push it that much farther out.

It's not it is just a cast mark. You can grind it down with no adverse effects. I don't see why that would help caliper strength unless you are saying that they crack down the middle. In which case I'd like to see a documented failure of that. @dantheman1540 has ground them down and has been on them for a while
17s won't fit though, need 20s or bigger.

17”s will fit but it depends on the wheel.
I have 30k miles with lots of towing, and aggressive driving on my ground down calipers. No issues to report except all other vehicles I drive feel to have inferior brakes.

Iirc OEM NBS Denali 17”s did not fit with the 4 pistons. A set of 17” method roost wheels I had fit as well as PPV steelies which was surprising.
Of course that was with the hump ground and possibly a 1/4” spacer I can’t remember but I know that I posted it somewhere.

Update:
Still very happpy with 13.5" rotors, HydroBoost and four piston 2020 spec Half-Ton brakes, retrofitted to 2002 Tahoe. Best brakes I've EVER used on any pickup truck..
DATA Point: factory GM 18" Aluminum wheels from 2017 will NOT clear the four piston brakes.

I am still Running the calipers whole, " As Cast "
Brake pedal TRAVEL was not increased by any perceptible degree.
The 2020 front brake parts fit well, and work well.
VERY good, easily modulated brakes. Still easy to use on ice, and snow.
