Putting an electronic 700R4 behind a 572 is twice as dumb as using them with LS2's. At least with LS2's (Corvette, GTO, SSR, TBSS, etc.) there is plenty of torque management there to protect the stupid thing. The same can be said for Jay Leno's 1000HP Twin Turbo Toronado. GM powertrain set that thing up and it's got torque management and skinny tires to protect it. THAT'S IT - skinny tires, all American Hotrod needs to do is mount up some 235's on that thing and that electric 700R4 will be just fine.

I don't care how many different ways a 700R4 is modified, electrified, or renamed, they will always be a money pit when mistaken for a "performance" transmission. The sad thing is that so many people need first-hand experience in that to finally realize and admit it.

I can testify to this one... I had an art carr (California performance transmission) 700r4 in my 83 malibu station wagon. I had an 88 corvette tuned port injection on a built 383. I had them build one "supposedly" specific for that motor.

Had good hook at irwindale and scattered it at about 60 ft.

I went through that 5 times with them. I eventually put a vortech on it, and made the problem even worse. Any time I stalled it up for a launch your 2 to 3 shift was the first to go. First it would get sloppy, then just gone.

the second trans i actually split the case about at the finish on the 1/8th...

700r4 blows!!!!!

Yeah I saw that show the other night as well and I'm thinking uh... "TH400 but no we decided to put this piece of **** in it." WTF!! Have to admit I lost a little respect for Coddington on that decision.

4l60es are kind of a flakey deal. Some will hold power alot of them won't.
I have a 00 Formula that I bought new to drag race. It went 12.96 with lid, loudmouth, and sticky tires.
At 2 years old I added a Yank ST3800 stall and a full TransGo valvebody reprogramming kit with computer tuning to remove the dreaded torque managment. Went 12.15 on ET streets with 1.7x 60's with a 3600lb raceweight.
Then I went heads and cam with all of the bolt-ons, left the drive train alone. Went down to the low 1.5 60s at 3500lbs and ran a best of 11.46 @ 118
Now I have a 4.10 spooled 12 bolt, a Pro Thruster 4000 stall, 3440lb raceweight, retuned with 400hp & 370tq at the wheels on a Mustang dyno. Pulling consistent 1.53-6 60' running 11.2x-.3x at 119+ mph. And still running the stock trans. Over 800 passes. The design is not weak but the execution is. One that is properly built exactly to spec will last. The rest die a quick death.

This is still in a 3500 lb car, and not a 4000-5500 lb truck. Much much different. This is evidenced by GM insalling the 7 5/8" rear dif. in teh Higher powered Fbody and installing the 8.5" 10 bolt in the lower powered, but heavier trucks.
Thetrucks are heavier and have taller tires when compared to the F-bodies. A 3.73 rear gear in an F-body with a stock 26" tire is different than a 3.73 gear with a 29-30" stock tire on a truck.

Although yours does seem to be holding up well. The 4.10 gears also are helping it live.

You are leaving 3-5 tenths on the table by staying with that 4l60e, why not swap to a THM 350, like others do? The 350 has closer ratios, and a 1st gear that is longer which helps with traction. Lots of F-bodys drop 3-5 tenths from a straight 700r4/4l60e to thm 350 swap.

You dont need OD in a drag car. Sell the trans while its still worth something, instead of paying to get rid of teh core.

Nice car.

peace

There's a mid 9 second LS1 t/a that runs at our local drag strip that pulls consistent 1.3 60' with a 4L60e and M/T 325/50/15 DR's. He don't have to much trouble with the transmission. The 4L60e can take some abuse if built properly. It has a race weight of 3700 lbs.. Here's a video of it.

This was at bradenton motorsports park. It took out the oil pan when it came back down. click here

This was at lakeland drag strip. click here
