Who's getting upset? I'm fine.
I realize he was asking about a specific engine but I was just giving him some extra info to think about.
And who said anything about performance?

I just picked up an 01 HD with the 8.1 and love it. Averaged 12-13 mpg on the highway home, but didn't get it for the mileage. Great alternative to diesel. Good luck!

I"M would not be buying the 8.1 for mileage, I know better than that. I have been driving my 2000 2500 crew with a 7.4 for nearly 8 years and know about BB mileage. I get about 11 in town and up to 13.5 on the hwy. I can see here from everyones comments that the 8.1 is not that much worse or better. The allison trans and all that tq that the truck I,m looking at has would be nice for my intended use. Now I just need to work the guy on his price another grand or two. Diesel would be a consideration if I knew I was going to be useing it for long distance hauls, but I'm not, and I personally can not stand the smell of diesel raw or burnt.

Yes but it was in reference again to mileage concern. No where in his first two posts did I see him asking about more hp/tq for more performance, just for mileage concern.
Why do you keep saying "diesel guys", I'm the only one in this thread with a diesel.
I would love to stay away from the diesel pumps (costs too much now) but it's so addicting!

HEAD NORTH,
Since you now say your not worried about mileage, I would say go for the 8.1. It is a great power plant for sure.

It's cool, I've been on a sugar high today. Damn co-worker put the left over M&M cookies on my desk this morning.
Well I couldn't just throw them away....
