That would be a sweet motor to drop in a RCSB or any other for that matter.

Then explain to me how my old 8.1l got 13.5mpg running 80mph. Then the forged engine I built for it got 12.5mpg with a .650 lift cam?

I'll tell you, my 2001 Silverado HD with the 8.1 and 4.10 gears runs more like a sweet revving smallblock, than the older 454s from the past. Gas mileage isn't a big concern if you want a tough truck that can haul just about anything!

i really dont think the milage was that bad considering the cubes and weight.

also if you talk to a diesel guy that's " all diesel" they dont get much better milage.

Chuck has a 05 crew dmax all stock, gets 11.5-12.0 in town. climbs to 15 all highway but drops to 10mpg all highway with a 3K trailer and mustang on the back. He said it pulls grate but its no better then the supercharged harley ? F150? they traded in.

The guy with the best mileage doesn't have a freak, he has an Avalanche. With less wieght and a smaller trans and rear he's going to post the best mileage numbers for an 8.1. I've got over 12.5 on hiway trips in my 2500 HD Alli with about 7,800 GVW and 265's but I'm always running 70-90 mph so it could get better if I tried I guess. The six speed guys seem to do better whether it be auto or stick shift.

This truck is an excellent choice for most people who need a truck that cannot be out worked and is hard to outrun but doen't cost a fortune to own. It's not a commuter option, each cylinder has more displacement than a whole Geo engine and wieghs 4 times more than a Geo so you do the math.

It got 12-14 before I put that lift on, and its also got the 4:10's in it. My buddy has the exact same truck except his is a dually. Its good to see some guys with the 8.1's GM should have made a lot more of them and they definately shouldnt have stopped!

I'll try and post some better pics, all the ones I have are too big of files for me to upload.
