Default 99-02 steering column question NEED HELP!!!

My 2000 Yukon got broke into and the jacked up my steering column. I found one out of a 99 Silverado for $100 complete. My Yukon key did not have the chip in it. I'm thinking this Silverado column would work. However there was a chip looking piece by the tumbler on the Yukon column.
My question is someone told me that the computer is now gonna be in a theft mode and I'll have to get the computer flashed. Once I would have that done and the column swapped I'm thinking everything would be ok. Does this sound about right for no???? Any help on this is more than appreciated.

The columns are exactly the same all 99 up gm trucks use the pass key system but it does not use a chip in the key it is built into the lock cylinder. Once you replace the column there is a 30 minute anti theft relearn procedure you can do your self at home

Bump the starter and leave the ign key in the on position after 10 minutes the security lamp on the cluster will turn off. Turn the key off and repeat step one for another ten minutes. after this ten minute period expires repeat step one for a third time and then turn the key off for 10 seconds. Then crank the truck and you are good to go.

Or saave yourself the trouble and put your lock cylinder in the new column provided it was not destroyed during the attempted theft.
