Yes you would need the clock spring.

Something came in today. I got what I thought was a good enough deal, that I could resell and not lose if it didn't work.

This is the 03-07 steering splined shaft I pulled for a NNBS wheel swap, with the K2XX wheel that arrived.

And here is the keyed fitment from the 03-07 shaft, to the K2XX wheel.

Fitment is tight with no play at all. It slips on without having to use any tools, (what I found was the K2XX wheel can also be pulled off the original column without the need of a puller). I'm not sure if this is already known, but I think I can confidently say this is perfect fitment. The part number for the locking nut is the same from 03-07 through K2XX as well.

For those of you who are 03+ you are already on a dual stage airbag. I have seen those airbags from a 1500, on ebay selling for as low as $150, (if you get lucky, and don't want a perfect one). The 99-02 needs the dual stage, and you can currently find em for $400-$600. ON BOTH, I STILL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT VOLTAGE REQUIREMENTS before connecting anything. No clue what might be going through the BCM or any other module.

On the K2xx, you can find these wheels heated, and the controls can come completely off and be interchanged. (I was looking for a perfect wheel when I bought this one). So If the gray(or black) plastic area on the wheel is worn, or if the controls aren't what you want, then that can be swapped out easy if the wheel is good. I THINK the heater element is going to be wheel specific if that is something you want.

For me, this will probably get boxed back up until I can find an airbag in the $200-$300 range. You will also need the clock spring. Still need to see if using an earlier model clock spring (with the correct stage airbag), can be modified to fit and make work. Especially if you don't care about the controls.

LKQ sells the dual stage air bag for $50?
Car-part you can find them for similar cost.

Edir: For some reason they are being stupid and are listing it incorrectly

They have the clock springs for under $100, but I haven't seen the 2500 / 3500 air bag for less than $350. The cheapest I've seen normally on the 1500 is about $300 (with a few about $150). I haven't seen the K2XX (2013 - 2018), (for the 2500 /3500 its 2014 - 2019), ones any cheaper. The newest T1XX / 2019 + ones are about $150, and even less.

Not sure why the pries are so varying but here you go.

That T1XX wheel has been a known thing for a while but I have only seen one person run it. I personally like it. If I had an 03 and didn't need any radio controls I would be running that wheel. Was super comfortable on longer drives in my dad's '17 burb

The prices you posted are for NBS 03-07 air bags (to put the 03-07 wheel on a 99-02). The $400 ones are for K2XX 2013-2018 airbags (2500 and 3500 is 2014-2019 where the single stage airbags are).

The T1XX (2019 +) might work just like this one will, but I haven't seen anyone talk about the single stage airbag options for us with 99-02. With the T1XX wheels, even the 2500 and 3500s have dual stage airbags. I'm thinking this is the newest factory wheel with airbag, that us 99-02 will ever be able to use.

Whether you can change out at least: the impact sensor, the airbag module, the clock spring, the airbag, and not sure what else to convert it to dual stage, is beyond my knowledge.

No worries, that is how I started this thread. I was just trying to share all the options and how this progresses. From here on out, its probably going to be ridiculously slow unless one of those airbags shows up cheap. I'm thinking it will take a couple years for more of the single stage to get stockpiled before the prices for good ones are commonly in the 2s. At least for now, the K2XX wheels seem to be the cheapest, and pretty easy to find em mint. I think eventually the good wheels will go up in price, and the airbags will go down.

If that's already known about the K2XX wheels and T1XX wheels fit on the splines correctly, I wasn't aware that was already out there. I was thinking that part would at least help let the 03-07 and NNBS people know they can do this wheel with their dual stage. For a $100 clock spring (if they can't use their current one), $100 steering wheel, $200-$500 airbag, they have this option too.

Yeah I had seen it a couple years ago on a single cab on Reddit lol
I do like that K2XX wheel and air bag. I bet I can find one cheap around me.
