Default Alternator "Big Three" mod question

I'm interested in doing the "Big Three" mod on my truck because I plan on getting some electric fans soon. I believe the alternator to red box wire is a fusible link. Is this true? If so, I will replace that wire with a 4 gauge wire and also connect a 120 amp fuse. Is this a good fuse considering I have the 105 amp alternator? Also, is there any physical features or part numbers on the alternator to confirm it is a 105 amp unit? I'm pretty sure I don't have the 145 amp alternator but I want to make sure. Does the towing package include a 145 amp alternator by any chance? Any info would be appreciated.

well the little wire is a fusible link and you can replace it and not use a fuse. i did!!!! also didnt help with anything on my truck, well kinda helped the lights dimming when i roll the windows up a little bit they dont dim as bad. i thought all newer trucks came with a 145 amp alternator

Be sure to put the fuse in the line from the alternator. It will work without the fuse, but if you ever have a short, you could burn down your truck without the fuse.

The 105 amp alt. looks like it is all aluminum on the outside. The 145 amp has a black ring of steel around the middle between the front and rear halves. Looks like a 3/4" black stripe around the alt.

Thanks for the replies. Thanks to Yogi Bear, I now know I have a 105 amp alternator. Considering this, will a 120 amp fuse and 4 gauge wire be OK to replace the wire going from the alternator to red box?
