3.08 with the 6l80e
Final drive of: 3.08 X 4.02(first gear) = 12.38 final ratio
I have 4.10s with the 4l60e
Final drive of 4.10 X 3.06(first gear) = 12.54 final ratio
There is a slight advantage to the 4l60e with the 4.10s but I doubt anyone could even tell. This thing is gonna kick ***. I do agree that the overdrive with the 3.08 on the 6l80e is going to load down the engine quite a bit, thereby reducing the gas mileage.
I'm going to buy a GMC Sierra XFE.

I had a 4300 lb Buick Roadmaster with a LT1 and 2.56:1 highway gears. I could spin tires no problem and the car had plenty of torque to move it up hills without the TC unlocking. Car also got 31MPG on the highway as well. This is a little 260 HP LT1 guys. Nothing wrong with 3.08 gears in a truck unless you need to haul 5500+ lbs of ****.

It should be a great truck for the average daily driver that doesn't load his truck much. It would be a perfect truck to buy for one of us. Get the lighter equipment and change the gear to a 3.42 or 3.73. You'd have one decently fast crew cab. I would have hoped for more milage increase than one though for that many changes.

Granted it will suck on launch and be a dog if you try to tow a horse trailer, but most people just haul a boat or a small utility trailer. I think the 6L80E is smart enough to not "seek" a gear on the highway, at least it is supposed to be. When I saw that FLEX FUEL badging on the bumper my choice was made up to can this idea. I was told at a recent GM Powertrain class to stay away from flex.

Ooooooooh do tell!!! I am not against your ideals, I just would like to hear what they said in class. I am stongly against flexfuel myself. Actually I'm so strong against ethanol alltogether that I refuse to run the E10 we have here in MN. Rather, I put the non-oxygenated in that's for boats and motorcycles only.

I'm sorry, but 3.08s would suck donkey nuts with the 4l60e. Didn't realize they were using the new 6sp tranny. That makes it much better. My effective gear ratio is 3.31 with a 6.0 and it freaking sucks on the highway. Just not enough torque at 1500-1700 rpm to accelerate up hills and whatnot in 4th with ease.

Please explain how it will suck on launch with a 4.02:1 first gear.... It WILL be a dog in the upper gear though. I'll give you that.
It wont get bad mileage in the city.... again, 4.02 first gear
