Default Anyone ever want to build a 4 cylinder?

I've had this idea for a while now and I think it would be pretty cool, just haven't acted on it.

I'd like to get an old 4 cylinder S10 to build up. Something from the '93-'02 range. Do a little engine work, slap a turbo setup on it, throw in the C16 and crank up the boost. It'd be cheap as hell to buy and seems like it'd be real easy to work on. Something like that I wouldn't mind tearing up and get it LIGHT!!

I guess I'm just tired of modding daily drivers and worrying about them. I want something that can be a project vehicle that is cheap!

Anyone ever did this with a 4 cylinder?

Cut an LS1 in half and throw it in there.

LOL, I know I'm going to get a lot of "Put a V8 in it" replies but, I've actually done that before with a '92. It was a complete pain in the nuts to work on!!

I want to try something different.

I'd rather not do a "swap" but, that would be cool. I'm just thinking of using the stock 4 cylinder and throwing some boost and C16 at it until it pops.

I like the idea and see no reason why a good clean 4 can't be competitive in a light truck. What's the worst that could happen

Thats sounds like a good plan, cheap and not your daily, so engine damage isnt such a big deal.

Ive heard from S10 guys that its not necessarily the internals that are weak, its the block.

The stock ln2 2.2 engines are very week. they do not like boost at all. heads suck, they will warp, or just blow a head gasket. rod bearings suck also. I have thought about a 2.2 ecotec swap into one with a turbo though, that would be interesting.

I think it'd be a fun project. Sure its not a V8 but anything that's double the power it was stock would be fun and inspiring IMO.
