I had a 2.8 v6 camaro and I always contemplated putting a turbo on it. But those things are absolutely GUTLESS so a forged build would be in order.
I got to tune my dads l4 2.2 cuz it is flippin WEAK. Now that i'm driving it i've been putting 91 in it so it's helped a bit.

I did a built 3.4 (same dimensions as the 2.8/3.1) in an 89. It was easier than the V8 swap and I got to keep the 5 speed. It was fun, but it was a lot of work for a pretty slow outcome. It was N/A, so a turbo build would most likely net better results, but I just couldn't escape the feeling my efforts were wasted after all the work on the 3.4.

That does sound like a pretty cool idea though, from what I gather the 2.2s can take some abuse/boost.

Well, with mixed reviews like these above, looks like you need to do it and let us all know the real truth.

Those Ecotec's can take some serious abuse. I'd do it.

Down the road, I think I'll take a Cobalt SS (the newer ones w/ a turbo) & use as a DD. Esp. in Michigan winters &/or if I need to for another reason.

I don't wanna continue drivin my 04 in winter(s).
I'd build a Cobalt SS just like my truck - for crushin imports!

I say use 1 of those. Lots of parts & support for them.

Do it so we can all laugh at you. Seriously, I've dealt with 2 2.2L trucks and they're the worst 4 cyl engine GM ever put in a truck. The 2.5L would stomp nuts over the 2.2L. I bet with 12 lbs of boost that motor would maybe be close to a NA 4.3L if you're lucky. You're wasting your money and time. Don't do it.

I love to build anything. I usually wish I got the Canyon RCSB with the 2.9 atlas becouse I can park it in my garage this Sierra I got is so wide the I almost rub the side pulling in.

I would love a little Canyon with a 4-6 drop. The usual header, exhaust, big turbo, and HP tuners. Silverado brakes front, and complete axle rear "cutdown to fit". Then when the 5 speed blows replace it with a tremtec 5 or 6-speed.

I would stay old school on the rims and use 15" just really wide and tucked in. 235/60/15 front, and 275/50/15 BFG radial TA's.

But the damn thing can't haul enough so I got the Sierra, but maybe if I save up I can get one for daily driven. Then keep the Sierra for buisness.
