Anyone running a completely custom fuel system?

Default Anyone running a completely custom fuel system?

Swapping in a cam/heads flat top 5.3 Into my 61 c-10. I'm trying to figure out what else I need for my fuel system. What are y'all running? I have never built a fuel system before so, this is all new to me. I looked at some of the .pdf's on aeromotives site and don't really like how there are two hoses coming off the front of the rail to the regulator.

Parts i have so far:
Inline Walbro 255 gsl392
-6 line
-8 line
2 inline filters
Misc. Fittings
22 gal fuel cell

I figure I need a fuel pressure regulator in there somewhere.....
Pics would be cool too.

Ok, so your going to use the stock truck intake and injectors/ fuelrail?

If yes is it return or returnless fuel rail?


Plumbing up a fuel system wont be that hard for ya.

Install your inline pump ( if thats your choice) as close to the tank as possible.

Then from the pump run a supply line up to roughly around the firewall , then you can mount a regulator on the firewall , then from the reg. to the intake fuel rail.

The reurn line will dump out the bottom of your regualtor and you can feed/plumb that line bach to the tank, some guys cut in a " T" in the gas filler to return to the tank also for your knowlege.

Put the fuel filter a few inches up stream of the pump.

You can also use a returnless style fuel rail ( has one inlet) with a corvette style regulator that has 1 outlet and 2 connections on the backside ( supply and return) It will regulate the psi to 58#'s.

Just some ideas here .

Also if your lost call Lonnies performance and will get you all the stuff you need.

I'm using a Vic jr. And edelbrock rails. I guess I should have been a little more specific.

For a custom fuel sell I couldn't recommend anyone better than Mark F, aka "Fuelcellguy" on 67-72 trucks board for the older truck stuff. I used one of his custom 22gallon cells from my 70 swb in my 2001 GMC with support rail modifications. Other suggestion would be an aeromotive regulator and call it a day.

You could look into using a fuel pump from the new ZL1. It has built in regulator.

I like in-tank pumps, personally.

pump > tank > filter > hose > rail > injectors > regulator > back to tank

Or actually if you are wanting less than ~500hp and/or dont plan on boost, a returnless setup would really be easier and work just as well or better.

[in the tank: pump > regulator] > filter > hose > rail > injectors

The list in the original post is the stuff I already have. I already have the cell and inline pump along with a lot of stainless braided line.

I have a fuel cell feeding -8 line into aero motive a1000 pump to regulator and -6 return line

I think I might be out of luck on return-less? I would prefer to go that route if it's possible with the stuff I currently have. I read your write-up, though. Good stuff.
