i have searched for this for bout an hour and cant seem to find it again. i just finished a motor swap and the battery is not charging. the alternator we are using is a 2 pin and the one from the donor at the junk yard was a three pin. the truck is an 06 v6 and the new harness is a 04 v8. im assuming it has something to do with the module on the ground wire. It is not hooked up due to the new harness not having that connector. is there a way to make this work without buying a new alternator? thanks in advance. the wires that are hooked up to the alternator are brown and grey and the blue is not hooked up.

I don't know if this still applies to the newer alternators, but from what I remember, that tird wire that your alternator requires but your harness does not have is the wire that tells the alternator to turn on. I know that on the older alternators you could run a 12v wire through either a resistor or small light (to keep current down) then plug it into the alternator and it would tell it to energize. With the newer alternators that shut down or adjust the charging levels depending on load, I would be hesitant to tell you to do this because I don't know if the newer alternators use a PWM signal or something like that to tell them not just to turn on, but how much to charge. Maybe someone else who knows these better will chime in.

got a new alternator. works like a champ.
