Beef up a 5.3 with a 6.0 block?
I have a 2001 GMC w/200K miles on it. The idea is to get the most bang for the buck by purchasing a 6.0 short block, increasing the ci to 408. Will my original cylinder heads work fine w/o any major mods? What can I use from my 5.3, i.e. oil pan, timing cover, cam, etc..? It's cheaper to find one at a salvage yard, what do I need to know to recognize a good 6.0 before I learn the hard way. I do not want to be duped and buy an engine block that doesn't work with my Gen III Heads or CPU. I'd like to make this a simple overhaul and plug and play, with the added HP. Will an LSX work? I would like to get a new block at a reasonable price, but that means I would need an expensive rotating assy. Sorry to be long winded, thank you.

any external part on the 5.3 will work on the 6.0.
heads
cam
intake
oil pan
front rear covers i believe also
timing cover
just get a 6.0 bore it out if thats your plan but for it to be a 408. you have to buy a stroker crank to make a 408 stroker motor. the bore only is like 402 or something to that sort cant remember exactly.
you will probably need a new wiring harness also
