Default best bang for buck brake upgrades?

What is the best way to upgrade your brakes w/o spending a crap ton of money?

I like this bc they fit under stock wheels(for my winter tire setup) but HOLY expensive batman

My brakes are very spongy and was looking at good ways to improve stopping power. I was looking into brembo blanks rotors and Hawk pads, would that be enough? I have good sticky tires, but I know the 22's don't help

Stainless lines and hydroboost will probably be the option that you would notice most. Ebc pads and nice rotors are probably the cheapest. Maybe an Eradispeed kit from Baer may be next, then possibly a z06 upgrade or aftermarket bbk

Just some personal experience here, not a huge fan of SSCB rotors. I'm fairly easy on my brakes, stock rotors got to 90k when I replaced them (mistakenly as I thought they were making noise when it was really the dust shield). the SSBD rotors, while not rusting at all, have warped badle in less than 20k miles. Very disappointing.

SSBC has been nothing but problems for me..i have tried a few of their products over the years. I am a fan of GM pads and rotors actually.

like mentioned above...hydroboost, stainless lines, 05 fronts, nbs suv rears.

Russell and Goodridge make good stainless brake lines, I went with Goodridge but haven't put them on yet. Plan to pick up the 05+ calipers from a junkyard and get some 13" Power Slot rotors.

Lines are about $120, calipers maybe $50-100 depending on where you go, power slots probably $100x4=$400, hydroboost, pedal and lines are about $100-$150 (junkyard).

You really need to check the brakes on your truck before you start shopping for new "upgrades". MANY MANY times on these GM trucks, I find that the machined surface of the rotors is rusting away, and the brake pads are only making 40-60% brake pad contact with the rotor. The rest of the rotor is "cheese-grating" the brake pad, and not contributing to any stopping power.

One inexpensive option is using slotted/vented stock replacement rotors, and police/taxi/fleet option brake pads. Most parts suppliers (NAPA, CarQuest, etc) carry them on the shelf, for a reasonable price. They DO WORK well, and fit under your stock size wheels.

Also check the brake caliper pins to make sure they are greased up. My rear ones were bone dry when I checked, made a difference when I threw some grease on there. You can pick up one of those little caliper grease packets at your favorite auto parts store at the checkout counter for $0.99
