Default Body drop?

Has anyone ever done a body drop in a nbs to hide the frame rails? Or can it be done. I would guess you could channel the body, and bed, or could you just put shorter cab mount bushings in? I jsut thought about it the other day looking at my truck, and wanting to change the drop some. I could drop the body down, and raise the suspention up and it would look the same, but ride better. any pics or links? thanks guys.

Body drops are cool, but are alot of work, you might have clearance issues with the engine, trans..

I will check the link after work. I didnt know if any on our site had done it. Sound/looks like it would be hard to pull off with out pulling the trans and motor foward to miss the firewall.

Plenty of people have done them. When I do mine I'll be doing the channeling method. There's a write up on gmfullsize.com.

I did a stock floor body drop once, replaced the frame rails under the cab with 2x4 steel and lowered the body mounts. I think it was a 2 1/2-3 inch body drop and I don't remember having any issues with the trans clearance unless your trying to fit a 4L80E. The firewall will need to be modified above the engine for intake manifold clearance or you could just swap to a car intake.

so you cut out the stock rail and fabbed in 2x4 rail? This is above my fab skills right now. I need lots more practice before i get to that. Is there any way to get maybe an inch or two by changing the body mounts out for shorter ones?

You don't actually cut out the stock rails completely, you weld the piece of 2x4 inside of the lower half of the frame rail and then cut away everything above and finish by boxing and plating the ends. Not gonna lie, it's a lot of work and I probably won't do one again, easier though than the traditional way. You might be able to shorten the body mounts to get maybe a half inch or an inch. I don't know what clearance issues you'll run into, but I know you'll have to notch all the bed cross supports or raise the bed floor.

on these trucks channeling is easier then doing a SFBD only clearance issue is the motor near the cowl it has to be cut out some. and the body mounts have to be moved down some
