Default Boil and pressure test heads?

I picked up a set of 243 heads low mileage and where said to be pulled in running condition but for a added insurance I was thinking of having them boiled and pressure tested. It's been at least ten years since I did a head swap and boil and test was common practice then is it still the better way to go now? And would anyone recommend changing the valve stem seals before install?

Ive never heard of that, to be honest. If the chamber looks oily you may need new valve seals but I doubt it if they are low mileage. At most I see people machine the surface 0.005 just to make sure they are flat.

With the boil I meant to have put in a bath and clean any oil and carbon build up as for pressure test it was something I did maybe ten yrs ago and they pressure ck the ports to make sure there's no cracks or problems but like I said that was a long time ago I don't even know if they do that now.

Yes, it is still done today. More comonly known as putting it in the hot tank Vs. Boiling but as you refered to it. its esspcially a good idea to have it pressure checked. Its better to find out early on rather the ruin a motor.

Waste of time and money. Casting technologies have only gotten better over the years.

Horrible advise.

You can never be too safe. I had my BRAND NEW $2500 set of heads checked out before they went on my motor. It costs next to nothing for that peace of mind
