I returned my 02 GMC truck to the dealer last week to have my broken tailgate cables replaced. They replaced the cables with the temporary ones.

When the cables broke my tailgate was damaged on the road.

The dealer I went to gave me a hard time about repairing the damage to the tailgate. It needs to be repainted in my opinion it is scuffed up pretty bad.

So I phone GM of Canada. I have been talking to a nice woman there for about a week now. She says she sees my point and that if it was up to her it should be repaired but she is telling me that since its a new recall or actually not a true recall yet they are not really sure what to do about it and that they may review each case on a case by case basis. I have spoke to her twice since my first call and she is telling me that the district manager needs to check out the situation and make the call or so I undersand.

She told me that one dealer was willing to give me a discount on the repair

Now in my opinion regardless of whether its a recall or not a part on the truck failed and my truck has a warranty. This should be easy to figure out that damage caused by a failed part should be covered under warranty.

Lets say a connecting rod fails and the whole engine is destroyed, do they just give you a new rod?

OK so what it comes down to is I would like to hear from anyone else that is getting hassled for this problem.

I hate how the dealers always you! I had the same problem on my mom's 00 Z-71; I was loading a couch in her truck when both cables broke at the same time while I was on the tailgate. She has a ranch-hand bumper that put 2 nasty dings in her tailgate. I haven't called GM yet, and the dealers are always a bunch of lying sacks of ! I had problems with my 99 and took it back 7 times and they kept on saying there was nothing wrong and that they won't do anything. COME ON, WHY THE F**K CAN'T THEY FIX YOUR STUFF UNDER WARRANTY, LIKE THEY'RE SUPPOSE TO!!!!!

I hear that! I used to get whatever I wanted when I worked for a dealership.

Tiburon: The letter I got said for certain 2000-2004 Chevy Silverados and 2002-2004 Avalanche models.

They sent the letter for recall to "immediately reduce the potential for injury."

I think someone may have sued them or tried to because of their faulty cables!

There is a recall on the cables, I received official notice about it last month. We are just awaiting word when the new stainless steel cables come in for replacement.

I havent seen anyone do that to me yet. I do agree that gm should be responsible but it shouldnt be the dealerships. Every ***** that had a scratch on their tail gate would be trying to pull this
