Default Calling GM Techs...need help.

My Fathers truck(2004.5 LLY Dmax) has a problem with the speedometer. It just sits at a speed and doesn't change at all. He said it was sitting between the 0-120 marks the other night and now it is sitting at 25mph no matter what.

I scanned the computer for him and it showed these codes

U1500 Inter-device dedicated bus Vehicle Comm. Interface Module(VCIM)
U1000 Class 2 Data Link
U1009 Loss of serial communications for class 2 devices

The only problem that shows is the speedometer just sitting at some mph that is not right.

Any insight?

Thanks

There Is A Data Bus Communications Error.... The Bcm May Have An Issue... I Would Have To Look And Make Sure That Is For Sure The Only Problem.....

Ill Bet There Is Other Stuff Your Not Even Noticing Not Functioning Properly

The Data Bus Is How Most All Signals Communicate Throughout The Vehicle.

It Looks Like Your Signal To Your Speedo Has Stopped. Maybe The Stepper Motor Malfunctioned, It Is Unlikely.... Mist Likely Either A Cable Problem, Or A Module Has An Issue...

Is It Still Under Warranty?

Yeah, it is under warranty so he will take it in. He was just kinda wondering if it was something simple to fix because he hates to be without his truck.

I scanned the computer from the OBDII port with EFILive and the computer data is showing the correct mph, the speedo is just not getting the correct info evidently.

Ok Then The Code You Are Showing Is The Cluster Not Communicating Fully... It May Be A Bad Speedo Stepper Motor, Or Even A Bad Circuit In The Cluster..... Does All Of The Other Functions On The Cluster Work??? Including All The Dic Info??

Yep, he will need the instrument cluster replaced. We see a ton of these fail at our shop. Starting with the 03 and up models. Dont really see many cluster problems from the 99-02 models.

Alright guys, warrant work here he comes.

**edit** I forgot he's way outta warranty with 75,000miles on it.

So, can he buy a cluster and just have it programmed with the correct mileage?

Why dont you throw the SSS cluster in there and make sure the speedo works when its in there if the SSS cluster works in his truck then tell him to buy one off here or ebay be cheaper then the 4XX bucks the dealer wants for one.
