Update! I hear the guy was claiming 590 rwhp, but most peole figured it was really at the flywheel and he knew no better.

It's funny a friend pointed me at this thread. I can't say I really appreciate it when people tell me I know no better.....

I've heard that there were a few comments flying around after I left like "he doesn't know what he's talking about" and "the idle is pretty rough, Russ could have done a better job tuning the car". It's kinda funny.

The car wouldn't be that special if it was only 590 engine hp, would it?

Anyway, just to end the confusion, the car is a 2001. Here's the first dyno sheet on the car. This is rear wheel SAE corrected hp from the chassis dyno(SAE correction is to 25C with 0% humidity and baro of 99KPa).

After that, the owner wanted it pushed farther (HP wars at the time) so Cartek did some more development and got it up to 590rwhp. The amazing thing is that is on pump gas. I am trying to get the final dyno sheet.

This is one of their maximum effort 447's. It is one of the highest hp, naturally aspirated, pump gas C5's I believe any shop has done. It is considerably more difficult and expensive ($20k+engine) to produce a high hp naturally aspirated car that still has street manners than a forced induction one. An 800rwhp forced induction corvette could probably be built for 1/2 to 3/4 the price of a 600rwhp naturally aspirated corvette. This is due to the development that has to go into the head and cam and the engine usually has to spin more rpm to achieve it.

There was a 610rwhp NA 447 built by ECS (which I bought and sold last year) but it only ran race gas (ran a 9.98s at 138mph 1/4 mile ). I believe Cartek said their pump gas record is 600rwhp with a max effort 427 based off of the LS7. That technology didn't exist until after they built this car.

As for the tuning, I'm a firm believer that it takes a pro shop like Cartek to build such a high hp NA car that runs and drives pretty much like stock (with the exception of the idle, and no tuner is going to take a NA car with this much hp and make it idle like stock). Cartek does 1000's of corvettes. Their experience and development work is phenomenal, not to mention their customer service. You just can't get to that level on a modern engine without doing dedicated engine development and building a ton of experience. This car is making within 10hp at the wheels of what a new Viper (which has significantly more cubic inches) is making at the engine! Or another comparison: 50 more hp than what gm is getting out of their supercharged ZR1 supercar.

Now, maybe I've been duped, but the fact that the car will run practically neck and neck (once it gets traction) with a new 600cc sportbike and start to pull it at 140mph is probably a good indication I haven't been.

Why don't you ask "what exit", then you'll get your answer.

Had a buddy take his 01 z06 down there and had the stage 3 heads and cam done. That thing was nasty.

They were also working on a procharged tahoe when we were there that was supposed to get into the 11's.

Hmm, that one was dug up pretty good. Is Arctic White the owner of the car I saw that night? I missed that last summer.
