Default Changing trans fluid

How often do you guys change your transmission fluid? My truck has almost 65K miles on it and I've changed it once since I bought it with 25K miles on it (I changed the fluid when it had about 45k miles on it). BTW: I do a lot of highway driving, does that mean I should change it more often?

I would change it every 50k miles unless you do a lot of towing, then I would do it more frequent.

I don't put as much faith into a 100k mile tranny fluid change as I would a 100k mile spark plug change. I don't care what the owner's manual says.

well, the reason why I changed it at about 50K miles was because the tranny started slipping every now and then(if I slow down really suddenly/quickly to a stop, then when I give it some gas to go, the truck won't move, its shudders a little like it wants to go but it just creaps along. Then I let off fast then give it the gas again and it goes just fine) . When they changed my fluid, it was almost black when it came out of the pan. After the new fluid and filter was put in, everything was great. Now its starting to do it again, its only done it once but I think the fluid needs to be changed again. My brother changes his every 15K to 20K miles. And some of the other car guys I talk to do the same.

when you change your ATF, you are only changing a fraction of it. try getting a tranny flush to get all the old ATF out.

Yeah I know, I had Jiffy Lube do the job. They sucked all the fluid out with their machine and then put new fluid in it. How many quarts of fluid does that trans hold anyways?, just curious. Thanks

I plan on dropping the pan, changing the filter and adding a drain plug at 15k miles in my 04. Then Ill just change the 4 quarts in the pan with the drain plug ever 15k and prolly change the filter again around 60k.

AMSOIL ATF!!! It's really expensive, but my tranny runs 40 deg cooler now. I did a complete fluid change at 50k, and plan on 4 quart drain & fills every 20k. I've got 75k now. I pull a 4500lb trailer 50 miles 3 times a week, and my 4l60 is still holding.
