Are you talking about the k&n filter that just fits in your stock airbox? Yea cold air intakes will probably lower your IATs but I wouldn't think that you would get more than 8hp from adding one. 90% of CAI kits have filters that require oiling. That is how they get dirt to stick to them. I have a CAI kit for sell if your wanting one.

I got Airaid's Synthamax dry filter to avoid the oiled filters. I also installed their Modular Intake Tube to remove all the factory restrictions. Sounds great and seemed to improve throttle response. $170 for both a Summit.

Every "cold air intake" equipped truck ive logged had extremely high IATs and never got down to ambient.
If i were to do anything, id just replace the mid section with a tube. The stock box is plenty and pulls cool air from the fender instead of hot air from the engine bay.
