HAH I dont have a problem with modding because my trucks are 100% me (I bought them and pay for mods) but they hate tire marks down the driveway and street. My freind came by in his K5 Blazer one day and did a long smokey burnout (pegleg) and my parents were mad asking me why I would do such a thing and told them "Everything I own spins 2" I ended up telling them it was a freind of mine though...

I just kinda started modding and snuck it under their nose. Then when the bills got too big I let them in on it. Made for a rough couple of weeks, but now dad loves it and mom likes that i love it.

i kinda had this problem once and i think this statement might have cured it
" it's my truck, my mods, and my money winch!!!" (well, everything except the winch part) lol

That's what I figured. You will probably have a tough time convincing him of engine mods - try your best, though. Just understand who it will affect when the truck isn't running.

That's the reason why I haven't even cammed mine. It takes me 110 miles roundtrip every day. And if it ain't running, then I would have to take the wife's car - she is not going to like that.

(I've got to get my Z back on the road!!)

I had the same problem with my father. I told him that the mods would increase mileage and would make the truck perform better. It worked for some of the mods. I also hid a mod or two from my father.
He didn't know I did them even when he was driving the truck. I eventually told him and he was not angry.

Honestly it's not worth it. I've done everything to my truck myself, paid for etc. I still pay for the truck and insurance. Parents fought me about mods. My dad was shipped overseas and I took advantage and bought and installed my stuff. Now since I did a burnout at school, cops called, parents pissed. My pump on trans. blew. Dad does nothing but yell at me, tellsme to get out of his face. Says I don't have the skill to fix it, (or use a screw driver for that matter ) Always says what I say is wrong, "how do you know it's the pump" because blah blah" No, you're wrong!" blah blah. Just wait until you leave the house man. It just rolls into a bunch of bullshit at the household. I worked my *** off for my parts, they're all coming off, or I don't drive the truck for another 8 months. **** man, let me re-iterate IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!

I had a hard time with my dad at first because he wanted me to keep my truck reliable. I did a lot of research on the things i wanted to do and showed him everything i came up with. But my dads a old muscle car guy (owns a 68 vette) so of course he just told me as long as i pay for it, i can do it. If it breaks, i better have the money to fix it. My dad and even my mom love my truck. It just takes a little convincing.

Look at some of the guys on this forum: they're going through engines as if it's no big deal, and most of it's all because they either A) don't have the money to do it right the first time, so they half-*** their mods, or B) they don't have enough experience or knowledge to do it right the first time, so they have to blow up a couple of engines before they learn that they still don't know everything.

Take a piece of advice from your dad and keep your daily driver reliable. money pays for mods, but getting to work gets the money

What I am fixing to learn, but still havent.

Don't race your daily driver. I do it, and its still running, but when you race something, stuff WILL break. If its your DD it puts you out of comission. My 5.3 blew for some unknown reason after teh tranny went earlier that night. Everyone on this site knows the 4l60's suck. I think when I lost 3rd&4th that on my way home (I was driving in 2) somehow it tried to shift to 3rd and over reved and snaped a rod bolt sending two pistons into self distruction and taking the block with it. Leaving me with a $6.80 pile of (heavy) crap to haul to th escrap yard. The first thing I did to the 6.0 was ARP rod bolts.

Learn from other people's mistakes. I have a 13 sec Z-71 that is my daily driver, so you can build a strong, reliable truck (thought I still have a couple of issues) but you have to lay the ground work for reliability. The new Z06 vette comes with a bored/stroked 6.0 and puts out 505 hp, I bet it will still run over 150k miles, but it has the foundation right.
