Default Crazy gas guage

Ok i know the sending units on theses newer trucks are crazy. Is it hard to change one out to save on labor costs. I know you have to drop the tank, but how hard is it to change this sending unit?

Thanks,
Derek

What do you mean by crazy gas guage, mine has just started acting wierd. When I have a quarter of a tank or less, if I romp it, sometimes the needle will go straight to empty like it lost power and the fuel light will click on. It will sit on dead empty for about 5 minutes and then pop back up like nothing ever happened. Scares the hella out me but only had done it a few times so in the last 2 months. TTT for ya

Yeah, I'm another long-suffering truck owner with this problem...LOL! I've heard a variety of possible causes, including using gas from the same store all the time. I just use my trip-odometer to know when I need gas.

Also, it may be easier to just lift or remove the bed instead of dropping the tank. Probably depends on how heavy the tank is right now, but lots of guys say it was easier for them to take the bed off or just shift it enough to get to the top of the pump.

Good luck!

I have not expierienced this on my 05, but have you checked the grounding strap or for crimped (or pinched) wires on the tank (around the pump and sending unit assembly) to ensure the pump in not loosing its connection. I had a 1997 Silverado that had the same problem and some wires had gotten caught when the bed was dropped on the frame at the factory. Just a thought!

Bad sending unit, mine has been doing it a couple years....refuse to pay $600 as "dealership" says must replace whole pump, that is BS, sending unit is like $40

My wife just called me saying she just filled up and teh guage is still showing empty.
The she said it shot up to full and a few minutes later the guage showed empty and the light came on.
So this sound like a sending unit to ya'll??? Has anyone replaced it.
