no, you misread it. Gas mileage between:
2wd dually vs. 4wd SRW
Just wondering if the extra pair of rear wheels is worse than the extra axle up front.
I'm very turned off by the many, many posts about the bad 600 Cummins fuel economy. That was one of my main reasons to consider a diesel, for the fuel economy! Loaded and unloaded economy.
Oh yeah, when people say BOMB it, does that mean just put on a programmer/chip?
Or, I could just say hell with it and get another 5.3L truck. It worked just fine for towing my cars. Besides, I'll only be towing about 5% of the time at the most.
Or maybe a Silverado SS? haha

god tony you and making decisions dont work out! lol.but i understand your concern. i would say that if you take away the farmers and construction crews out there, that 90% of the diesel owners out there dont NEED their diesel. and gas engine truck can pull with a 25' enclosed trailor. the owners out there got one "just because i can!" if that makes any sense.
also BOMB = Bring On More Boost (kind of a git er dun acronym) lol!!!
as for your question, hell if i know. but i have to think that the 4wd srw would get better milage due to way less drag than a 2wd dually. but i think there would be a 2-3 mpg MAX difference, probably less.

that article explains the poor milage they are getting with the 600. larger multiple injections etc etc.

I pulled the trigger on a black F-450 crewcab 4x4 lariat with PSD/auto and 4.30 gears this afternoon.It was a hard decision between a GMC dually and the Ford.I still think the GMC is a better looking truck but the Ford won out because of the beef factor.The brakes on the Ford are HUGE and the 18,000 lb tow rating will work great for work and towing the car hauler.The 6.0 is very quiet and offers acceleration similar to a stock Dmax.This is the first time since 1995 I haven't owned at least one Chebby truck.

I chickened out and kept my HD.I went to sign the paperwork and pick the truck up and got cold feet.I couldn't do it,I felt like I was giving away my first born.The Ford was sweet but,well it's hard to explain but I'm happy I kept the Dmax.I have a personal attachment to this truck and just won't get rid of it any time soon.

dont forget the "free" 100k warantee on the d-max plus modability, longevity and there is no way the 6.0 gets 15mpg because I get 16.4 PURE highway in a 1500 4.8- cruise at 75-80.
Pure highway a d-max can get over 20.
I think i'm getting one based on the "just because" factor though

Ok...I just had to set the facts straight on this. the 6.0 and 8.1 vortech motors are very similar in gas milage. I know a couple of guys that own each of these and the 8.1 usually only gets 1-2 mpg less if that. They both drive these trucks hard and are both completely stock. Also my dad's 04 dmax is averaging about 17.5 mpg being driven hard while the 6.0 of my friend's is averaging 11! I can see where people would want to go diesel, but everyone says maintanence isnt bad should look at the oil change. That costs alot of money just to change out the oil in a diesel.
