Default Difference between single & dual exhaust?

My cousin asked me a good exhaust question. He cant decide on a single or dual exhaust setup. He told me that he can get a single magnaflow 5X8X22 muffler installed for ~$140. He can get true duals magnaflows with an x-pipe for around ~$300. Is the dual exhast really worth the more dough? How much of a gain do you guys think there is going with a true dual setup than a single in dual out muffler w/ cutouts. I told him to go with true duals so he wont regret it later, but he just wont understand. Oh and is there much difference in sound and quality between a magnaflow and a borla. I told him I am very happy with my exhaust setup. Oh he is kindof short on $$$ too.
Oh no the fire alarm just went off. Its like being back in High School. Gotta run...
