years ago I took my dad's 01 8.1L 3.73 gear 2wd Suburban to the track more than once. At Hallsville it was capable of running mid 16s, but at Texas Motorplex it wouldn't run better than low 17s.
He still blames me for one of the axle bearings going out, but I blame it on towing his boat.
My first time ever at the dragstrip was in my 91 TBI305 2.56 gear open diff. Caprice. I was excited to run a best of 16.599@81mph that night! That is the quickest that car has ever run.
Slow cars are good foot-brake bracket cars
