The dome light in my buddies 03 avalanche wont come on when the passenger side door is opened, when the other three doors are opened it comes on but for some reason when all the other doors are closed and the passenger side one is opened the dome light stays off. Any ideas where I should start looking first?

I believe the switch is built into the door latch. I'd say pull the door panel and check the wiring to it. If it checks out, replace the switch(latch).

check the dome override button? its right there by the manual light switch under your driver air vent

This sounds about right, I was having a similar problem with my driver's side (sometimes my interior light wouldn't come on, and other times it wouldn't shut off), and I traced t back to the courtesy switch which is located in the latch assy.

Sounds like it's definitely a local problem at the passenger door.

N e new news on how to fix this problem? How much for a latch or the switch and how to maybe take it off. My truck is doing the same thing and my alarm wont go off when you open the passenger door.

You have to replace the pass side door lock/latch assy (not sure what GM is calling it these days), I did my driver's side a few years ago but I can't remember what it cost...I'm sure it's not cheap though, if I were to guess I'd say $100+ The part is actually what latches on to the striker when you close the door, it houses the latch, lock actuator, and courtesy switch.
