Default DRL and Brake sockets burn

I have had problems with my DRL and Brake light sockets burning on both of my trucks. The brake light sockets burned so bad on my 2002 that I had to replace the harnesses. I upgraded to the 2006 tail lights on both of my trucks.

Anyways, on to the DRLs. My 2002's DRLs went out and the sockets were burned and I was able to get the bulbs out, but they won't work with new bulbs. Today, I went to change my bulbs on my 2000 and the same thing happened. The socket was burnt and the bulb was melted in place. When I went to remove it, the socket broke.

Anyone have the same problem? Couldn't I just buy new sockets? I remember some people converting to turn signals and doing away with the DRLs. Anyone do that conversion and have any problems?

That is a very common problem where i work we are constantly wiring in new sockets because the old ones have overheated and melted. and sometimes they have been SO bad that they actually melted the back side of the light assembly itself, to the point where you have to replace it also.

I don't know of a fix too it?

We haven't found one that works for good. sometimes they come back a year later needing to be replaced again, and some don't ever have to come back.

Thanks.......I guess the DRLs and Brakes burn out, because they're used ALL the time?

Maybe run bigger wire and LED's...that should keep the heat to a minimum

Possibly. Its a common problem with these trucks it seems. I've never had one burn out though other than one bad batch of bulbs when I first got mine. My DRL's have been running strong since I got it in '01. Of course I do turn mine off most of the time.
